Glossary
The following terms used frequently in the British Lostbelt (and broader context of Fate/Grand Order) are those that are particularly important to understanding the context of Morgan's story.Bells of Pilgrimage - Bodies of the dead faerie clan leaders that signify obedience to the faerie of paradise and their support of her mission to free Britain. Their sound resounds through all of Faerie Britain when rung. The story of this Lostbelt is initially anchored in Caster Artoria needing to ring the six bells in order to have enough power and support to stand a chance against beating Morgan. However, Morgan mocks the notion that someone who has only completed a single pilgrimage would have enough power to face her directly, as someone who tried for centuries to save Britain.
Chaldea - Also known as the Security Organization for the Preservation of Humanity, Finis Chaldea. Chaldea’s mission is to guarantee the continuation of human history by monitoring the physical and energetic state of the world to detect and eliminate anomalies that could erase Proper Human History. The protagonist of Fate/Grand Order (Master) is a member of Chaldea.
Child of Prophecy - A prophecy spread throughout the land of Faerie Britain about a chosen faerie who will embark on a pilgrimage to ring the six Bells of Pilgrimage and overthrow Morgan’s tyrannical rule and save the land. While believed to be their savior, the true nature of her mission is actually the total erasure of the Lostbelt. Artoria Caster is the true identity of the Child of Prophecy.
Crypter - The original members of Chaldea’s Team A—seven elite Master candidates—were in a state of cryogenic stasis to prevent their deaths at the start of Fate/Grand Order. They were later chosen by the Foreign God to each take care of a Trees of Emptiness and ensure the growth of the associated Lostbelt timeline in exchange for their lives. Beryl Gut is the Crypter associated with the British Lostbelt.
Existence Tax - Once a year, Morgan requires faeries living in cities to offer a certain amount of magical energy (their life force) to her. Those who do not acquire enough magical energy to pay the tax will die. This is possible because she engraves the faeries with a curse in the form of Command Spells. Chaldea assumes Morgan uses this energy to power Rhongomyniad, but in reality it supports the cyclical reincarnation system of the faeries and powers the magical barrier that seals Cernunnos underground.
Faerie of Paradise - Refers to a faerie that is artificially created by Avalon, the Inner Sea of the Planet. These faeries are born with the mission to forge the Holy Sword Excalibur as a weapon to reset the broken world. They have no other personal desires or long-term dreams because they are entirely defined by their burdensome mission. Aesc was the first Faerie of Paradise who ultimately abandoned her mission after being betrayed by faeries too many times. Artoria Caster was then born to replace her.
Lostbelt - An alternate timeline of human history that was originally pruned by the universe because it was deemed as a dead end (either humans stop evolving due to stagnation into a peaceful utopia or humans are led to destruction from a dystopia). After the Foreign God planted Trees of Emptiness across the Earth, seven pruned timelines manifest on the surface of the planet. One of these timelines is the original British Lostbelt.
Mors - Hostile and mindless monsters that are a pervasive threat to Faerie Britain. When faeries meet or fail their purpose, or they are overcome with malice, despair, or envy, they become corrupted with Cernunnos’ curse and transform into a Mors. The curse is one of the soul, so other faeries that are touched or harmed by a Mors become infected themselves. Outbreaks of Mors are common for this reason.
Pit - A colossal hole in the ground underneath the capital of Faerie Britain, Camelot. The pit is the location where Cernunnos was brutally poisoned and murdered 14,000 years prior to the storyline of Lostbelt 6. Over millennia of faeries living on top of its massive body, Cernunnos’ remains were compressed into a deep, subterranean abyss, which turned into a pit of bottomless miasma and sludge. Morgan built Camelot on top of the pit to seal Cernunnos and the miasma underground, but the curse still leaks out and spawns the Mors.
Rhongomyniad - A form of magecraft that Morgan mastered, powerful enough to burn down even a Tree of Emptiness. She has it in weaponized form—there are twelve stored in Camelot’s main gate facing the pit as a means to defeat Cernunnos. Morgan only actually uses Rhongomyniad one time in the story as an intercontinental ballistic missile from the British Lostbelt to Olympus to attack the Foreign God. Morgan’s Noble Phantasm, Roadless Camelot, has over twenty projectiles that look identical to Rhongomyniad as well.
Servant - A temporary clone of a heroic spirit that is summoned (typically by a Holy Grail, but also through Chaldea’s summoning system) to fight in the material world. Heroic spirits are removed from the standard reincarnation upon death and their souls are imprinted into a cosmic database referred to as the Throne of Heroes that exists outside of time and space. They are able manifest physically into one of several combat classes (i.e., saber, archer, lancer, etc.) based on which aspect(s) of their legend or tale manifest and are only sustained through a constant supply of magical energy—generally a human master. Morgan is a servant originally summoned by Beryl Gut in the story and can later be summoned by the Master.
Trees of Emptiness - Incredibly tall tree-like structures that originate from seeds created by the Foreign God that preserve the history of the Lostbelt they inhabit. Fully bloomed trees are able to create space-time distortions because of something similar to a galaxy existing within them. Morgan drains the British Lostbelt’s Tree of Emptiness to shift its status from being a Lostbelt to a “lostworld”—a self-sustaining world detached from Proper Human History. The energy was also used so she could Rayshift her knowledge of Proper Human History to Aesc and reshape the fate of Faerie Britain.
