About Ereshkigal

Name: Ereshkigal (エレシュキガル)
Origin: Ancient Mesopotamian Mythology
Alignment: Chaotic-Evil
Height/Weight: 159cm, 47kg
Illustrator: Shiduki Morii
Voice: Kana Ueda
Noble Phantasm: Kur Ki Gal Irkalla
Character Info: The goddess of the underworld in Sumerian mythology. She wields a spear-shaped cage, capable of skewering her enemies, trapping souls, and summoning lightning at will. She is the ruler of the underworld, and is to be feared. From the day of her birth, she was entrusted with the governance of the underworld. When the Age of Gods ended, she disappeared without ever knowing the surface world or freedom. In this form, she has manifested not as the goddess Ereshkigal, but as a Pseudo-Servant whose vessel is the soul of a human girl who shared certain characteristics with her.

She claims her job is simply to watch over the souls of humans as befits a goddess of the underworld. She does, however, have this complaint: "...I really don't like it when too many people flock to the underworld all at once. Making cages to trap souls is a pain...and I'm not sure if I can make this place comfortable for everyone..."

As you can see, she doesn't do a spectacular job of hiding just how much she likes taking care of people. She is truly the underworld's (red) angel.

My Thoughts & Feelings

Ereshkigal has been one of my favorite servants since I knew about her. You may be able to tell by my domain name that I am a fan of things connected to spirits, ghosts, etc., so perhaps it's only natural that I would be immediately attracted to the goddess of the underworld! On a surface level, I love her design, her battle style and her animations. As I got to know her character, though, I only found myself liking her even more. I admire her deep sense of honor and responsibility for the task she was given—even though she longs to be free and see the surface world. She cares about human souls, and does her best to make death a gentle experience in the ways that she knows how. Of course, she is a chaotic-evil aligned servant, so she also has some tendencies to be a little bit dark in that she prefers souls to living beings and had been preparing to drop the entirety of Uruk into the underworld prior to the need arising to save humanity! Ereshkigal also has some of Rin's personality traits, such as being easily flustered by the person she likes and being a bit of a tsundere—both of which are aspects of Rin's character that I enjoy. Honestly, there isn't one thing that I dislike about Ereshkigal. I wish I knew what she actually looked like when not using Rin's body, though!

While I do not currently have plans to make a site specifically for Ereshkigal, I do talk about her on my Fate/Grand Order site in the context of having her in my game, and actively collect her merchanidse. If you'd like to see more of either, feel free to click the images below to do so!
